pH, EC / TDS and temperature
The HI1285-8 multiparameter probe measures pH, EC / TDS and temperature in a convenient rugged probe. Preamplified pH electrode
The pH electrode circuit has an integrated amplifier which serves to reduce the effects of electrical noise on the high impedance pH measurement. Electrical noise can come from common motors and pumps in greenhouses. The single reference junction design of the pH electrode has a tissue junction that allows movement of ions between the internal gel electrolyte and the sample to be measured. The advantage of the fabric joint is that it can be pulled out of the probe, exposing a cool surface when readings become adrift or erratic. These features make this probe ideal for use in fertilizer solutions.
EC / TDS amperometric sensor
EC / TDS readings are taken by a two-pin amperometric sensor. An alternating voltage is applied to the sensor and the amount of current flowing between the two stainless steel pins determines the amount of dissolved ionic solids present.
Integrated temperature sensor
The pH and EC / TDS readings must be temperature compensated for accurate results. The HI1285-8's built-in temperature sensor provides a quick temperature reading which is then used to adjust the pH and EC / TDS results accordingly.
