For soil nutrient analysis using instruments
The Groline HI83900 lysimeter allows a solution to be extracted from the soil by creating a vacuum (negative pressure) inside the tube, which is greater than the tension of the water in the soil. The change in pressure establishes a hydraulic gradient that will allow the solution to flow through the porous ceramic tip inside the lysimeter tube. Generally, a vacuum of approximately -60 cb (centibar) must be created; depending on the length of the lysimeter tube, the included 30 mL syringe may need to be drawn several times.
The lysimeter is compatible with benchtop multi-parameter photometers and for nutrient analysis. This allows the user to easily monitor the level of fertilising nutrients such as ammonia, nitrate, phosphorus and potassium. Analysis of pH, conductivity (EC) and total dissolved solids (TDS) of the soil solution can also be performed with a wide range of portable and benchtop instruments.
Function overview
Tube with three different lengths - The HI83900 is available in three different lengths: 30 cm, 60 cm or 90 cm. Regardless of the root depth, the user can easily extract a soil solution that represents the concentration of nutrients available for uptake by the plants.
Porous ceramic tip - The ceramic tip of the lysimeter can be used in all soil types and is made of a material that does not react with nutrients. The soil solution is therefore not polluted by the chemical composition of the ceramic tip and analysis results will always be accurate and reliable.
Syringe and tweezers - A 30 mL syringe and tweezers are included to help the user quickly and efficiently create a vacuum inside the tube.
Easy to clean - The lysimeter must be sterile and free of air bubbles before being positioned for extraction in the root zone. The HI83900 comes with cleaning solution to sufficiently activate the tube and porous ceramic tip
