The FishPlant Systems have been developed in conjunction with Aquaponics UK at Stirling University.
The FishPlant system is a splendid combination of aquaculture and hydroponics. You can raise fish and grow plants in an enclosed system with beneficial microbes providing the bridge that converts the fish waste to usable plant nutrients. When you feed the fish, you are also feeding the bacteria and the plants, which is a natural eco-system with correct balance.
Get started your aquaponics cultivation with FishPlant Family Unit, large enough to provide plenty of fresh salad, and stocking up to 3.5kg of fish. The FishPlant is small enough to fit into a small garden, greenhouse, small restaurant and even teaching aid for schools.
The PlantBed of the FishPlant system is based on the EBB & FLOW hydroponic technique. The flood bringing water and nutrients to the plants roots, the drain drawing oxygen into the root zone. The system ensures constant circulation and maintains water oxygenation for fish farming.
What Species of Fish can you farm?
In practice, Tilapia, Carp, perch, Trout are the most popular options, which are intended to raise edible fish. They are warmwater fish species than also can tolerate crowding and changing water conditions.
You can grow ornamental fish such as Koi Carp or Goldfish which just eat the plant produce.
